Receipe for Apple fritters

The apple fritter is a time honored dessert in certain areas of the United States; however, in other areas of the nation, the recipe is seemingly unknown. Regarded by many as a “country” or “southern style” dessert, the concept of the “fritter” is actually very popular in the United Kingdom. The word “fritter” by definition refers to any food that is layered in batter, and fried. In the United Kingdom many different fried foods have the word “fritter” attached to the food name in question. The potato fritter is just one of the many named “fritters” in the United Kingdom. Even though the apple fritter is regarded by many in the United States as a “Deep South” dessert, the origin of the fritter is actually very much to the contrary…as the aforementioned information detailed. In the United States the apple fritter is often associated as “junk food” and is extremely common at events such as the state or county fair. One can only assume such stereotypes are the reasons behind the dessert being associated with the “Deep South” portion of the United States. The apple fritter is certainly a food that goes against the grain of the health conscious individual. The recipe is old fashioned and caters to the idea of “dessert”…over “healthy snack.” Fritters obviously make no apologies about being high in fat, but for the people who enjoy the fritter…no apologies are necessary. If fried desserts are the ideal choice for the family, then apple fritters certainly meet all the perfect requirements. RECIPE
